Kingstar Farm is the name of a new stud in the Hunter Valley that will stand three stallions this season. The proprietor of Kingstar is Matthew Sandblom, who has extensive breeding and racing interests including being a partner in Newgate Farm and a part owner in the Golden Slipper winner Capitalist.
“While I have been thrilled to be part of the success and growth of Newgate Farm I also wanted to be involved in the smaller end of the market and take a punt on a couple of stallions that have great credentials, but would get lost on the roster of a bigger stud. Yarraman have shown with I am Invincible and Hinchinbrook that you don’t have to have to buy the most expensive colts off the track to have the most successful stallions,” Sandblom said. “And I’m pleased to announce that our foundation stallion will be Bull Point. “He has the attributes a good stallion should have. He is a great type with Group I ability, who was the highest priced Magic Millions yearling of his year.”
A son of champion sire Fastnet Rock, Bull Point also has the all important pedigree behind his good looks and ability. His yearling full brother made $1.2 million at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale this year.
“He is from a great family being out of a full sister to Mica’s Pride the dam of Criterion and Varenna Miss. He ran some incredible races as a two and three year old including the run of the season when 3rd in the Group 1 Golden Rose after being tailed off until the home turn,” Sandblom continued. “I’m really determined to make Bull Point a success at stud and I will be supporting him with a good number of stakes performed mares from my extensive portfolio.”
Sandblom is also offering further unique incentives to further assist Bull Point in his quest for stud success.
“I also want to give breeders who support the stallion some of the upside if he succeeds, so the first 50 breeders who send two mares to him in the first two seasons will get a lifetime breeding right in the horse,” Sandblom said. “In addition, I would like to offer breeders some protection against the downside risk. “In return for the breeder paying a 10% premium on the normal service fee the they will get a full refund of the service fee if the foal dies before it turns one, and if the yearling fails to sell for $20,000 or more at a yearling sale I will also refund the service fee. I know what it is like to be breeding on a tight budget, as that is what I have mostly done until a few years ago, so these deals share the risks more fairly between the stallion and mare owner.”
Bull Point will stand for a fee of $7700 including GST.
Also standing at Kingstar will be the Group II winning son of Snitzel, Salade for $4400 (inc GST) and Monaco Consul $6600 (inc GST), a Group 1 winning son of High Chaparral and sire of Group I performing filly Honesta. Kingstar Farm is located near Denman in the Hunter Valley. The farm was previously called Redman Park and is opposite Amarina Farm in Dalswinton Rd. The farm is managed by Adam Cooke who has extensive experience working in and managing stud farms. Redman Park was previously used as a boutique broodmare farm, but Kingstar is making a considerable investment in upgrading all elements of the farm and building a new stallion barn and serving shed that will be completed by June.
